About William

The Honourable William Carter

First elected as Member of Parliament for Toronto-Centre in 2004, William Carter was appointed Minister Without Portfolio by Prime Minister Thorpe in July 2005.

 

From 2004 to 2005, Mr. Carter served on the Standing Committee of the House of Commons on Heritage as well as sitting on the Defence Committee.

Active in international parliamentary associations, Mr. Carter was elected founding President of the Inter-Parliamentary

 Forum of the Americas. He has served as Vice President and Treasurer of the Parliamentary Association of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe, and as Treasurer of Liberal International.

Mr. Carter was born in England and grew up in Ottawa before going on to study at Kings College, in Halifax (B.A. Hon.).

In Toronto, Mr. Carter worked as Human Resources Director for the tele-communications firm Avery-Woods, Mister carter was also instrumental serving as campaign manager and lager Chief of Staff for the late Robert Avery Minister of Heritage.

 

William Carter is most notably remembered for the failed assassination attempt whilst abroad. His later determined return to the House of commons in time for a crucial vote saw the insurance that Canadian Troops would not participate in the post liberation Iraq.

He and his fiancé Andrew currently reside in Toronto-Centre and are both active members of the community.
